It's moving!

PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail

The PURPLE PATH brings together the residents of Chemnitz as well as people from 38 cities and towns across the region. A long-term open-air sculpture museum has been created stretching from Mittweida to Schwarzenberg, Glauchau to Seiffen, and Freiberg to Schneeberg.

Here, internationally renowned figures in contemporary art—such as Leiko Ikemura, Monika Sosnowska, Jeppe Hein, and Michael Sailstorfer—meet with significant artists from Saxony, including Jana Gunstheimer, Via Lewandowsky, and documenta artist Olaf Holzapfel.

Artists from Chemnitz, such as Johann Belz, Gregor-Torsten Kozik, and Michael Morgner, whose work had long been virtually unknown in the West, also gained visibility in this context. Their works engage in a dialogue with international luminaries such as Rebecca Horn, who passed away in 2024, as well as Daniel Buren and James Turrell
