Chemnitz is green

Being active, being outdoors - Off into nature in and around Chemnitz

Nature in Every Direction

At least, according to the satellite image, almost 80 percent of Chemnitz is green. The reputation of "Rußchemnitz" (soot Chemnitz) has long since disappeared with the chimneys and the city has expanded its green lungs to 1,000 hectares.

So there's plenty of space for extensive cycling, jogging, picnicking, barbecuing and getting some fresh air. For example, in the city park, which is even a third larger than New York's Central Park - with its 6 km length.

A diverse cultural region invites you into the lush countryside at the gates of the city

Whether hiking or winter sports in the Erzgebirger (ore mountains), cycling on the Chemnitztalradweg (valley cycle path), paddling on the Zwickauer Mulde or visiting castles and palaces in the region - simply everything is possible here.
