It is estimated that well over two million people took part in the Chemnitz Capital of Culture year and the 38 municipalities of the Capital of Culture region. The ‘Capital of Culture effect’ was felt everywhere: visitors enjoyed nearly 2,000 events in the Chemnitz 2025 programme, and visited museums, festivals and concerts.

They discovered the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail, explored the maker hubs, met people in car parks, marvelled at Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’, planted apple trees, took part in open-air dance classes or visited record-breaking exhibitions.

In doing so, Chemnitz presented itself as a wonderful, friendly and professional host to thousands of tourists. At the same time, the city developed into a sought-after venue for congresses, conferences and numerous other events attracted by the Capital of Culture title.

The people of Chemnitz and the entire Capital of Culture region not only delighted their guests – they also surprised themselves.
