The Red Tower was built at the end of the 12th century and is the oldest landmark in the city. The tower owes its name to the red color of the brick floor above it. Over time, the Red Tower has served various functions: keep, part of the old city wall, prison, and museum. The Red Tower also houses the “Great Chemnitzers” exhibition, which honors important figures in the city's history, as well as the Walk of Fame located at the tower.
