Castle District

Short facts

  • Chemnitz
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower,…

A district that invites you to linger: At the foot of the mountain, the Schlossteich and a cosy pub district, above the museum, church and the Küchwald.

The highlight in this district is certainly the Schloßberg Museum, perched on the hill. As a museum of city history, it is of course located in a historic building: first a monastery and founding site of the city, then a hunting lodge and today an exhibition space - the history behind the place is at least as exciting as that of the unique collection. From the terrace of the Miramar restaurant up here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the castle pond and towards the city centre.

Below the old Benedictine monastery are the oldest preserved residential buildings in the city. You should bring time and an appetite for this, as the restaurants in the houses are well worth a culinary break.
In the pretty half-timbered houses, guests who like things cosy and traditional get their money's worth. From hearty to modern, you can find whatever you fancy here. The adjacent Küchwald forest with its park railway, garden railway and cosmonaut centre is ideal for a short digestive walk after a meal. In summer, events take place on the Küchwald stage.
