Colorful chimney

Short facts

  • Chemnitz
  • Worth seeing

The Bunte Esse, visible from afar, has almost become a landmark of Chemnitz.

At 302 metres high, the chimney, colloquially known as "Lulatsch", is probably the tallest work of art in the world. The 18,000-square-metre outer shell of the CHP chimney was designed by French artist Daniel Buren with seven coloured sections of roughly equal size. From aquamarine to traffic yellow, it shines far beyond the city limits at night thanks to 168 LED lights.
