In the immediate vicinity of the Chemnitz River, the former Schönherrfabrik on Blankenauer Straße has found new purpose. True to the Chemnitz maker spirit, the former industrial complex has been extensively renovated and is now being repurposed in a variety of ways. In the former Saxon loom factory of Louis Ferdinand Schönherr, numerous small businesses such as a renowned event agency, IT and software companies, the cosy café ankh, the Max Louis restaurant praised for its excellent cuisine, the canteen of the same name that cooks no less well, photo studios, artists and even a well-known Chemnitz punk band with its rehearsal rooms have found new domiciles. A fitness studio for women, a very exclusive sports shop and even a wellness studio can also be found here - so the conversion of the Schönherrfabrik is almost like a wellness cure, which has not only given the grounds and the historic industrial buildings a new freshness.
